We have decided to organise a sponsored swim event for all children swimming in the deep end of the pool.  Our Goals: to see how far we can swim collectively as a club, and at the same time raise a little money for a local charity, Rainbows Children's Hospice.  The swim will be on Saturday 14th July from 8am, and Tuesday 17th July from 8pm.  What's even better is that Capital One have agreed to match the total that we raise.

Can we (together) swim the distance of:
  • Nottingham to Derby (15 miles / 24 km) 1200 lengths
  • The English Channel (21 miles / 34 km) 1700 lengths
Can you swim
  • 500m – 25 lengths
  • 1000m – 50 lengths
  • 1 mile – 81 lengths
  • The distance from your home to school (work out in km using http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/ and convert into lengths by x 50.)
We just need to set down a few rules to help this run smoothly so here goes…..
  1. Open to children swimming in the Deep End only – sorry but this is due to space available and to ensure safety of all swimmers – Other swimmers: please talk to you teacher about setting something up in your lesson / area.
  2. Children to swim in normal lesson time unless pre-arranged with your teacher.
  3. If you want to opt out of the sponsorship side, that is OK, but we will not be running separate lessons on this date, so children will be expected to ‘distance’ swim during your normal lesson time.
  4. Having a breather (holding the side) during the swim is OK, this is not a distance badge so we will let you have a short rest when you need it.  However the Teachers hold final decision, if they judge a child is too tired, or causing too much disruption / delay to others they may ask you to get out of the pool until they feel you are ready to carry on again. Again – sorry but this is due to space and safety restrictions.
  5. Teachers will group swimmers into lanes of similar ability / speed.
  6. We will ensure all swimmers have an appropriate warm up.
  7. Parents are more than welcome to help out (count lengths for your child or others) cheer on encouragement.
  8. Our sponsorship form is available to download, and paper copies will also be available at your lesson.  Please remember to get names and addresses and a tick in the gift aid box so we can maximise the money we raise.
  9. Swimmers to bring in their form on the morning of the swim.  This will be signed off by a club official with the number of lengths they swim.
So, you can download a Sponsorship Form as soon as you can.  Get as many people to sponsor you as you can, and then see how far you can swim!

We think this is a fun idea to spice up our swimming lessons and do some good at the same time.  We hope you agree!

Yours,  Rushcliffe Swimming Club,  Deep End Swimming Teachers.
