Rainbows Hospice
After such a successful sponsored swim in 2012, we've decided to see if we can do even better this year. Two years ago, we swam an incredible 73.9 miles as a club and raised over £800.

We'll be repeating the event at the end of June, on the Saturday and Tuesday sessions. There will be no lessons in the deep end, just sponsored distance swimming. Our Goals: to see how far we can swim collectively as a club, and at the same time raise a little money for a local charity, Rainbows Children's Hospice.

The sponsored swim will be on :
  • Saturday 28th June from 8am
  • Tuesday 1st July from 8pm.
In 2012 we swam 5949 lengths, covering 79.93 miles.  Can we do better this year?!

Like last time, we just need to set down a few rules to help this run smoothly so here goes…..
  1. Open to children swimming in all groups.  Distances will mostly be swum in the Deep End due to space available and to ensure safety of all swimmers.  For swimmers not in deep end groups please check with your teacher what's planned for your lesson/area.
  2. Children to swim in normal lesson time unless pre-arranged with your teacher.
  3. If you want to opt out of the sponsorship side, that is OK, but we will not be running separate lessons on this date, so children will be expected to ‘distance’ swim during the normal lesson time.
  4. Having a breather (holding the side) during the swim is OK, this is not a distance badge so we will let you have a short rest when you need it.  However the Teachers hold final decision, if they judge a child is too tired, or causing too much disruption / delay to others they may ask you to get out of the pool until they feel you are ready to carry on again. Again – sorry but this is due to space and safety restrictions.
  5. Teachers will group swimmers into lanes of similar ability / speed.
  6. We will ensure all swimmers have an appropriate warm up.
  7. Parents actively encouraged to help out by counting lengths for your child or others and to offer encouragement.
  8. Our sponsorship form is available to download, and paper copies will also be available at your lesson.  Please remember to get names and addresses and a tick in the gift aid box so we can maximise the money we raise.
  9. Swimmers must bring in their form on the morning of the swim.  This will be signed off by a club official with the number of lengths they swim.
So, you can download a Sponsorship Form as soon as you can.  Get as many people to sponsor you as you can, and then see how far you can swim!

We think this is a fun idea to spice up our swimming lessons and do some good at the same time.  We hope you agree!
